My favorite apps of 2024
From productivity boosters to fun discoveries, here’s what made my home screen and beyond this year.
First Up: A Note of Thanks
As we close out the year, I just want to say thank you for being part of this journey. When I started this newsletter, it was a simple way to keep you updated on my weekly tech adventures. Now, with over 37,000 of you, it’s grown into something special. What I love most? You’re actually opening and reading it—no small feat these days!
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. No matter what you celebrate - enjoy it! And don’t forget to recharge. I know I will—especially since CES is just around the corner and always demands my best.
CES Prep: The Year’s Biggest Tech Event
Every January, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicks off the tech calendar, and it’s a whirlwind of gadgets and innovations. It’s where I get some of my best stories for the entire year.

Milestones at KTLA and KFI
This marks 14 years at KTLA for me, an incredible run. This year, we launched my weekly show, Rich on Tech. It airs Sundays at 11:00 AM on KTLA+, and features all of the segments I do and more in-depth versions of my TV segments. If you haven’t seen it yet, download the free KTLA+ app to catch up on your TV. It works no matter which city you live in.

On the radio front, I’m celebrating two years of my show Rich on Tech. It airs Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM PT on KFI AM 640 and on hundreds of affiliates nationwide or as a podcast. Listening live is the best way to experience it, but you can always catch up on demand.

Apps on My Home Screen
As 2024 comes to a close, I thought I’d share the apps I rely on every day. Some are new discoveries, while others are tried-and-true favorites that have earned their spot on my home screen. Whether you’re using an iPhone or Android, these apps are designed to simplify life—and they definitely do for me!

AI in Action: iOS 18.2
Apple’s iOS 18.2 brings new AI features like custom emojis, smarter Focus modes, and a glowing Siri interface. My favorite? The AI-powered Focus setting that reduces interruptions.
I Try a Massage Robot
Imagine a robot giving you a massage after scanning your body with AI! I tried it, and while it’s not a replacement for a human therapist, it’s a neat option for airports, gyms, or hotels. Just prepare to wear a spandex suit—thankfully, no one’s in the room unless you’re recording a TV story like I was!
Holiday Hacks and Festive Fun
From talking to Santa on ChatGPT to Alexa’s holiday Easter eggs, there’s plenty of tech cheer this season. Google even has some hidden surprises if you search for holiday-themed terms.
Would You Pay $60K for a See-Through TV?
LG’s futuristic transparent TV is officially on sale—for a whopping $60,000. Yes, it’s pricey now, but like all tech, prices will eventually drop.
Call ChatGPT—Literally
ChatGPT now has a 1-800 number! You can call and chat with it for up to 15 minutes each month—no app or signup required. It’s great for quick answers when you’re on the go or for folks who aren’t as tech-savvy but want to try AI.
It might sound gimmicky, but this feature opens up new ways for people to access information.

ChatGPT Search Goes Free
ChatGPT’s web search tool is now open to everyone—not just paying subscribers. This feature blends the power of ChatGPT with real-time web searches, giving you current answers for anything from product research to planning your next trip.
To use it, look for the little globe icon in the search bar. There are some usage limits for free users.

End-of-Year Flex Spending Tip
If you have flex spending money left to use, don’t let it go to waste! My sister recently mentioned she had extra funds and wasn’t sure how to spend them. I reminded her that Amazon has an entire section dedicated to FSA-eligible items. From first-aid kits to over-the-counter medications, it’s a great way to make the most of your remaining balance before the year ends.

Watch Out for This Speeding Ticket Scam
It claims your vehicle was caught speeding in a school zone and includes a link to pay the fine immediately. The website looks somewhat legit, with official-looking logos and convincing details.
But don’t fall for it—it’s a total scam. Scammers are counting on your panic to click the link without thinking. Their goal? To steal your money, personal information, or login details.
I love when you send me scams like this because it helps me alert others. Remember, if something seems suspicious, take a moment to think and verify what you’re seeing—especially when it involves urgent payment requests.

Thank you, Robert… and a heartfelt thanks to everyone who commented on my “Holiday Card” on Instagram and Facebook. I read every single message, and the outpouring of love and support actually really moved. Your kind words mean so much and are the biggest reason I continue doing what I do. Thank you.
