My best Prime Day shopping tips for 2025
How to spot real deals, skip the hype, and get the most bang for your buck.
Greetings! I don’t like to send a ton of extra emails beyond the newsletter, but I wanted to share my Prime Day shopping tips and product recommendations.
First off - Amazon Prime Day 2025 is longer than ever—four days this year. It kicks off July 8 (Tuesday) and runs through July 11 (Friday).
As always, Amazon’s promising millions of deals—but the only ones that really matter are for things you actually need or want.
This post may contain affiliate links that help support my newsletter at no extra cost to you.
That’s why my tried-and-true advice still holds:
Put the stuff you’re eyeing in your Amazon cart or Saved for Later list now.
This way, you can quickly spot any discounts once Prime Day begins. Amazon usually flags deals with a little banner near the price that lets you know about a price drop.
If you’ve been tracking a product for a while, you might already know when it’s time to buy - especially if it rarely goes on sale.
But sometimes it’s a bit more nuanced. What I look for in a deal is if it’s the lowest price it’s been in the past 90 days or so. Some items are always on sale. Others rarely drop—so when they do, and it’s a Prime Day deal, that’s your moment.
So, once you see this banner advertising a Prime deal, that’s only half the battle. Next, you need to check to see if something is ACTUALLY a deal, or just on sale at a price it always goes to.
Two helpful tools to check if it’s a true deal:
Amazon’s Price History (this is brand new!)
If you’re on Amazon’s mobile app, look for a “Price History” link near the price. Click it and it will show you a chart with up to 90 days of historical pricing information.
If you’re on the desktop site, look for Amazon’s AI assistant, Rufus. It’s usually under the product photo. Tap “Ask something else” and type in or select “show price history” from the options.
This price history graph reveals that these headphones are a good deal at 50% off, but it also reveals that they often go on sale at this price - three times in the past 90 days. Basically, the Prime deal is good, but even if you don’t get them today, you can probably get them at this price in the near future.
You can also use the website CamelCamelCamel
Paste the Amazon product URL into camelcamelcamel.com to see a pricing graph over time.
What you’re looking for is either a price that’s lower than usual—or a product that rarely goes on sale and finally is.
Quick reminders:
You must be a Prime member to get these deals. If you’re not, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial here.
New this year: Prime for Young Adults, for ages 18–24. If you qualify, you can get a $0 trial.
Now, it’s time to shop. First stop: check out my list of tried and true product recommendations. It’s the stuff I regularly recommend to folks.
My go-to gadgets & gear
Everyone’s always asking me for product recommendations — so I put them all in one place. This is my go-to list of gadgets I actually use, like, and trust. I’ve personally tested every item here, and I’ll keep updating this page as I find new favorites.
Below, I’ve grouped many of the brands Amazon says will be on sale by category. Some links go to a specific product; others are more general, so click through to see what qualifies for a Prime Day deal.
Final thoughts - many other stores - including Target, Best Buy, Walmart - are running competing sales… so it might be worth checking them out.
Slickdeals.net and DealNews can help you find stuff to buy if you’re looking for the best deals out there on Prime Day.
Finally, you can use a browser extension like Shopback.com to get $1 back on Amazon orders [use my referral link for a sign-up bonus] and cash back at other online retailers. Be sure to activate Shopback’s Quests, especially the one for Prime Day that will give you $5 cash back on an order of $100 or more at Amazon.
I think that’s it… enjoy, and don’t spend what you don’t have or buy stuff you don’t need.
