How to use AirPods as hearing aids
Apple has released a software update that turns AirPods Pro 2 into clinical-grade hearing aids. You’ll need an iPhone running iOS 18.1 software and, specifically, AirPods Pro 2—the feature doesn’t work with any other version of AirPods.
AirPods Pro 2 retail for $250 but are often on sale for cheaper.
If you’re unsure of your model number, you can check in a few places.
Settings > Bluetooth and tap the (i) next to your AirPods
You can also check the AirPods themselves - the model number is printed in tiny text on the buds. You can take a photo with your phone and zoom in to read it.
Here’s what you’re looking for, via Apple Support:

To take a hearing test and activate the feature, connect your AirPods to your phone and then go into Settings and you should see them listed towards the top. Tap their name and then under HEARING HEALTH select the option to “Take a Hearing Test.”
The process takes a few minutes and you’ll get your results instantly.
You can also access the test via the Health app. Open the app and scroll down until you see the section labeled “Get More From Health,” and the option to take a hearing test should be there.
