A phone case you can change, a pouch for wet phones and a charger that organizes your nightstand
I’m always looking for accessories that make the gadgets I already own a little more useful. Lately, I’ve been testing three that do something genuinely different, including a phone case that can change its appearance in seconds.
The Xtreme Inno case has an E Ink screen built into the back. Using its app, you can choose a photo or design, crop it and send it wirelessly to the case. NFC handles the transfer, and once the image is there, the case doesn’t need a battery or charging to keep displaying it.
I found changing the image quick and easy. You could put a favorite photo on there, match the case to your mood or just change it whenever you get bored. The iPhone 17 version is about $70.
Another accessory caught my attention because it solves a problem we all dread: a wet phone.
The $35 UAG Dryout Pouch is basically a reusable drying bag for electronics. Instead of tossing your phone into a bowl of rice, the pouch uses special materials designed to pull moisture away from your device and trap it. Afterward, you can let the pouch dry out, including in the sun, and use it again.
Of course, most modern smartphones already have decent water resistance, and this isn’t going to magically revive a phone with serious water damage. But for lingering moisture after a spill, rain or a particularly humid day, it’s a handy thing to have around.
Finally, there’s the Twelve South Valet, which attempts to solve another modern problem: the pile of stuff we empty from our pockets every night.
It’s a leather catch-all tray with a Qi2 wireless charger built in. Put your phone on top to charge, then toss your keys, wallet and other everyday items into the tray. There’s also a USB-C port underneath for charging a second device.
The catch is the price. At $130, you’re definitely paying for the luxe design, and there’s no dedicated Apple Watch charging spot. Still, I like the idea of having one place where everything goes at the end of the day.
