Update: Congrats to our winners! Grand prize: Debbie Sankey of Nuevo, CA and runner-up Kristal Zacharias of Aliso Viejo, CA! Thanks to everyone who entered!
I’m willing to bet that a bunch of annual holiday cards are taken on smartphones. I’m also willing to bet that your card would look much better if it was taken by a professional.
Recently, I tried out something new called Photo Op by Minted. It’s an on-demand service that sends a photographer to you so you can get professional photos taken faster than you can say “Cheese!”
Ok, cheesy jokes aside, here’s how it works.
I went online and answered some questions about what kind of photos I wanted to be taken. You can choose from styles including “minimalist,” “fun poses” and “neighborhood stroll.” Then, pick a time and date and an independent photographer meets you where you want – whether it’s your home or a park. You get 30 minutes to take a whole bunch of photos. The price? $100, which is a lot cheaper than many photography sessions cost.
Our photographer was friendly and understanding. She knew kids are notoriously hard to get good pics with. She snapped away, helping us pick the right locations and poses.
Here’s the genius part – the photographer takes the photos, then sends them back to Minted to get touched up. This way the process is much faster so the turn around time is 2-3 days. We got our finished files exactly 3 days later.
Minted chooses 10 photos to retouch and even formats them into holiday cards for you. Then, you can just browse through and make any tweaks as you see fit. The bigger play here is that Minted hopes you order your physical, printed holiday cards through them as well – but there’s no obligation to do that. You’re free to download high res versions of all of your photos – including the retouched ones.
So, how are the photos? Better than I expected. For $100, it’s a fast and easy way to get a better looking holiday photo for sure.
Photo Op is currently available in San Francisco, LA and New York.
